Why the brand matters at all
An implant is not a generic screw. It is a precisely engineered device with a specific connection design, surface treatment and documented research behind it. A named brand gives you three things an anonymous implant never can: published clinical research, identifiable spare parts that any dentist can order years later, and a manufacturer warranty that can actually be claimed.
If a clinic will not name the exact brand and product line it plans to use, that is worth questioning before anything else.
Straumann
Straumann is a Swiss implant system with a long clinical track record and a reputation as one of the most extensively researched brands in implant dentistry. It is often positioned as a premium, higher-cost option, chosen for its documented long-term performance data.
ETK
ETK is a French implant system, CE-marked and used widely across European clinics. It offers a solid middle ground between premium and value-focused systems, with a design suited to a broad range of standard and more complex cases.
Alpha-Bio and Biodem
Alpha-Bio is an established system with a wide range of implant designs suited to different bone conditions. Biodem is a German, CE-marked system, often supplied with its own documentation trail linking each implant to a specific serial number.
Neither should be considered a lesser choice simply because it costs less than a premium Swiss system. What matters is that the brand is named, documented and backed by a genuine manufacturer warranty.
How to compare systems sensibly
- Ask for the exact brand and product line in writing, not just "premium implant"
- Check whether the brand is CE-marked and has published clinical research
- Confirm whether the manufacturer offers a warranty, and how it is claimed
- Ask whether the serial number will be recorded and given to you
